Employee Loyalty: how to increase It
Employee loyalty to a company is one of the keys to its success. Dedicated employees are focused on the organization’s performance and put forth maximum effort to achieve its goals. By acting in the company’s best interests, they simultaneously act in their own interests, as they are typically aligned. Disloyal workers, on the other hand, are passive, detached, and indifferent to the company’s objectives. They often change jobs, resign without any explanation, and lack a sense of conscience. It is obvious that the second type of employees cannot be the employer’s dream. However, it is equally clear that loyalty does not appear on its own and needs to be implemented, supported, and developed. How can employee loyalty to the employer be increased?
- Be an example for subordinates
By their attitude towards work processes, management sets an example for the entire team to follow. The active position of top management, their dedication to the common cause, and their determination in completing tasks will serve as guidance for other employees. However, sluggishness, inertia, and wasting time on empty conversations will be perceived by subordinates as the norm of work behavior. If you want good results from your employees, demonstrate them yourself.
- Be honest with employees
Gaining trust within a team is not easy, but losing it can happen very quickly. Just one deception can be enough for subordinates to stop taking the words of management seriously. If you promised a corporate event, organize it; if you talked about raises or bonuses, follow through on your word. Even if the company is facing certain difficulties, it is better to honestly communicate this to employees rather than feeding them with stories. People intuitively sense injustice.
- Listen to the initiatives of the team
Conduct team meetings and organize brainstorming sessions. Involve employees as much as possible in decision-making processes. Don’t dismiss innovative ideas; allow their authors to implement these ideas into reality. You will see how the loyalty of proactive employees to the company will strengthen. Supporting initiatives from “bottom-up” encourages employees to work effectively because they feel their significance within the company.
- Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of employees
Each employee is unique in their hard and soft skills. Some excel in certain areas while finding others more challenging. By knowing the strengths and weaknesses of your subordinates, a manager will always know which tasks to assign to whom, which skills require further development, and so on. Taking an individual approach shows respect from managers to their subordinates.
- Provide psychological relief
Continuous mental strain often leads to emotional exhaustion, decreased work efficiency, and lack of focus. Strict discipline exhausts and keeps people in a state of tension. To support the mental well-being of employees, it is important to maintain a balance between physical and mental activities. Therefore, allow your subordinates to occasionally take breaks from work routines for recreation. Organize relaxation areas, fitness rooms, and more. It is also beneficial to invite a corporate psychologist who can assist employees in dealing with psychological difficulties when needed.
As you can see, there are many ways. They are all simple and understandable. Moreover, they are truly effective because companies that already implement them experience loyalty from their employees, making them more attractive employers in the market. Of course, building loyalty within a company takes time, but once achieved, every employer will feel how much healthier the atmosphere has become within the organization and how much more efficient its operations have become.
